Keep in reading shape over the summer!

Commit to the LHE Reading Challenge

We are so proud of our Herrington students’ commitment to reading during the school year.  We have some truly amazing readers.  Help your child maintain and improve his/her reading skills over the summer.  Reading an average of 20 minutes a day helps prevent the loss of reading skills that often happens over the summer.  We hope all of Herrington’s students will commit to the summer reading challenge.

What is the summer reading challenge?

Herrington’s own reading hero Rock “the Reader” Hawk has a fun two-part summer reading challenge.  First, Rock is challenging everyone to read 600 minutes over the summer. Keep track of your minutes by filling in each 10 minutes block as you read.  Rock doesn’t want you to just count minutes though.  He wants you to add adventure to your reading. Color in each “Adventure in Reading” block when complete.  Color in all the blocks to complete the challenge, and then turn your form into your teacher at the beginning of the school year. You will be invited to collect your prize and participate in a flashlight reading extravaganza!

Download the summer reading tracker.

Visit the Round Rock Public Library and conquer two challenges at once!

Need some great books to read over the summer?  Visit the Round Rock Public Library where your reading minutes can also earn you prizes with the Round Rock Public Library.  How does their program work?  The Round Rock Public Library’s Summer Reading Program starts June 10 and goes through August 10, 2015.  Pick up a reading log from the Round Rock Public library or sign up online.  Earn a prize for every 5 hours you read. Everyone in Round Rock is now eligible for a Round Rock library card. For more information about the Round Rock Public Library and their summer reading program.
